Cartier – Unparalleled Luxury Vintage Sunglasses and Glasses
In 1847 Parisian goldsmith Louis Cartier made his first forays into independent jewellery design. It would have been hard for this young Frenchman to envision the status that owning a pair of vintage Cartier sunglasses would endow over 130 years from their inception.
Known for producing jewellery for the high and mighty across the globe during their first century of business. Every royal household or world leader coveted a Cartier piece or two. It was not until 1983 that Cartier began to move into a new accessories’ arena of glasses and sunglasses.
The lunettes Cartier collection from Les Must de Cartier in 1983 was an instant hit. The frames became some of the most sought-after glasses of all time. The first frames to launch were the Cartier Vendome - sharing its name with the Cartier Paris HQ in Place de Vendome. The Vendome's partner in crime was the Cartier Must frame - a phrase coined by their president Robert Hocq to represent the “must-have” element of their designs.
In the late 80s, they introduced more iconic styles including the Cartier Romance line. This was their first frame designed exclusively for women. Not long later, the Tank, Santos and Panthere frames joined the luxe Cartier frame collection and are now highly sought after by vintage Cartier sunglasses and glasses frame collectors.
